Framed for the Holidays Vintage 6″ x 6″ Lights Aglow Card

This card was inspired by my husband, Eric. He saw just the DSP on the front and suggested I create a “vintage” Christmas card.

The Lights Aglow DSP is my absolute FAVORITE and is, sadly :-(, discontinued and out of stock. If you don’t have this DSP already, then substitute any other DSP you like or you can look to the aftermarket for it. It was our MOST POPULAR DSP this year for all of Stampin’ Up!

To give this a more vintage feel, I used the photo splits die from our Fabulous Frames Die set and put the DSP on a black background. It makes me think of an old photo album.

I’m in love with the Festive Pearls and the Pearl Basic Jewels and thought they would be perfect for the tree.

I created my own little gifts to go under the tree with scraps from various packs of DSP.

For me, I think I might frame this and hang it on my wall. I’m very pleased with how it turned out and it makes me think of Christmas as a little girl, growing up with my mom and older sister. 🙂

Project Tutorial

Step 1 – Cut the Basic Black 12″ x 12″ sheet of cardstock in half and score in half at 6″ to make the card base.

Step 2 – Choose a piece of Lights Aglow 6″ x 6″ DSP and cut it to 5 7/8″ x 5 7/8″.

Step 3 – Using the gold foil from the Brushed Metallic Cardstock, cut the Christmas tree using both the outline and the detailed die nested together, from the Twinkling Lights Dies. Cut the oval frame from the Fabulous Frames Dies. Reserve the frame piece.

Step 4 – Using the silver foil from the Silver Foil Specialty Pack, cut the outline only of the Christmas tree from the Twinkling Lights Dies.

Step 5 – Using the Basic White, cut another oval frame from the Fabulous Frames Dies. Reserve the center piece for embossing the sentiment.

Step 6 – Using the silver foil, cut the 4 corner pieces using the corner splits die Fabulous Frames Dies.

Step 7 – Using scraps from the Storybook Gnomes, Santa Express, and Sweetest Christmas DSP, cut your “gifts”. From a scrap of Sweetest Christmas with the small candy canes, fussy cut one candy cane for use on one of the “gifts.”

Step 8 – Using scraps from the gold and silver foil and also Sweetest Christmas, cut “ribbon” for the “gifts.”

Step 9 – Using the liquid adhesive, glue the strips cut for “ribbon” to the “gifts.” Glue the candy cane to the center of the Sweetest Christmas “gift.” Use Wink of Stella to color on the candy cane and give a bit of sparkle.

Step 10 – Using the liquid adhesive, glue the silver tree to the back of the gold tree.

Step 11 – Put Festive Pearls on the two “gifts” with foil ribbon and on the gold tree. Do not cover up the circles where the silver shows through.

Step 12 – Put the Pearl Basic Jewels (smallest size) on the garland circles of the gold tree.

Step 13 – Emboss the Basic White oval with your sentiment in silver metallic embossing powder.

A. Rub the Embossing Buddy across the white oval cardstock to get rid of static.
B. On a piece of scratch paper, using the Versamark Ink, stamp the sentiment on the white oval.
C. Sprinkle the silver metallic embossing power over the Versamark.
D. Tap off excess.
E. Set the oval aside.
F. Fold your scratch paper in half and dump the unused embossing power back into the container.
G. Using the heat tool and holding the oval with the crafting tweezers, heat the embossing powder until it melts.

Step 14 – Turn the gold frame on it’s face and set the oval inside it, also on it’s face. Put Dimensionals on the back – using the Dimensionals to hold the two together.

Step 15 – Fold the Basic Black in half and burnish the folded edge with the Bone Folder to get a crisp edge.

Step 16 – Adhere the Lights Aglow DSP to the front of the card base.

Step 17 – Using the liquid glue, adhere the four corner pieces to the front, to look like a photo being held in a vintage photo album.

Step 18 – Using the liquid glue, adhere the tree to the DSP.

Step 19 – Remove the release paper from the Dimensionals and adhere the framed sentiment to the DSP.

Step 20 – Arrange and adhere the “gifts”, using Dimensionals, in front of the tree. I used one layer of Dimensionals on the left and right “gift” and two layers on the center “gift” for more dimension.

Step 21 – Stamp a sentiment on the inside Basic White layer and adhere it to the inside of the card.
